Check back in 90 days!

I was out shopping in a ((GIANT TIGER!)) store with my mom and my 4 kiddo's yesterday.  *feel free to call me crazy, but I do bring all 4 with me*  They are usually kept in check with the promise of a cheap toy or treat.  BRIBERY DOES WORK!  :D

I've been eyeing the P90X for some time , but refused to pay 140$ for it, and I just suck at downloading anything that needs to be zipped, or changed from one type of file to another.  Well, I looked down, and there was the poor mans version!  10$ for a 10 disc, calender, meal plan etc etc.  It's called Supreme 90 Day.

eSo yesterday was Day 1, chest and back.  It claims to use muscle confusion for its results.  You literally go from one set of workouts to another, with a push/pull combo.  Lighter weights to heavier weights and a stability ball.
Day 1

It was fun, I broke a sweat, so I will continue.  I don't know if I will do it daily, or just on my non run days.  some days, I will probally do a combo of both.  I've enlisted Sebastian to join me some days.  He wants a six pack PLUS he's a TV/video game junkie, so I need to find some stuff for him to do that he'll enjoy.  BUT I know he does enjoy 'working out' with mommy, and it gives us great 1 on 1 time.

On our way!
Speaking of, I had him join me on a run the other day but he brought his bike.  I gave him the option of HILLS or NO hills.   He chose hills.

I promised him NO hills next time.  HA!  But despite the hills, heat and having to walk his bike up a few hills, he survived just under 5 miles and did not complain one time!!

:)

Ugh--HILLS!

Running, What's that?

I swear, I feel like I haven't had a decent run in WEEKS!  I've gotten out there, I've ruuuuuuuuun, but the heat and humidity has been overpowering!  PLUS the whole dog bite fiasco, I've had to find a new trail to run.  (The dog bite route was awesome as it was so treed, it was shaded, even if it was 2 in the afternoon.

Last week, I had a gentleman come running up behind me on a dirt back road, which terrified me after getting bitten.  We chatted while running which was a WHOLE new thing for me.  I RUN ALONE. But it was nice, and a good change, we ran till his turn around point and I carried on home. I was able to hold a 5:30 (km) pace, after already running 12km, having a conversation in 4000 degree heat! Ha.

Other side, I am soon going to have arms like Arnold if this heat continues.  Admittedly, my weight workouts had been kicked to the curb lately, but when it's this hot, and my 'gym' is in my basement..... ` IF I really want to run, I'm going to have to plug in the dread treadmill.

Pretty feild
Yesterday the heat was so bad, I actually used my cell and had my dad come and pick me up b/c I just couldn't do another 10km.

Found some shade! Stopped for a guzzle of water
I write my Personal Training exam in ONE month, which I haven't even opened the book.  I know 'how' to work out, and I have always had the ability to make it work, but it's all the technical stuff I need to get and terms.
Hope it shows, but been so hot, the rainbow around the sun
Love the sound of these roads under my feet

Running Safety

A few weeks ago, I was concerned about my safety while running and how much I may take it for granted.  I do run in pretty rural areas, and generally don't carry a phone.  I have had a man approach me 2 times, albeit 2 times with a three year span in between. HA!
I did purchase some pepper spray, but haven't taken it with me,, as it's been so hot, IF I am going to carry any extra 'stuff' it's going to be water.

So not even thinking A DOG would invade my personal space, today I was bitten while running!  It was a route I've run before, and it was an out and back, so I had just run thru there 20 or so minutes before. NO ISSUES EVER!

It was a hot day, and I generally run against traffic (as we should).  BUT the opposite side of the road was shaded, so I switched.  Thankfully, because being on the opposite (right hand) side, gave me a few extras seconds.  I was passed the driveway (it was on left), and on the opposite side of the road, and I heard very loud barks and getting closer. *I had my earphones in one ear*  I turned and saw this dog running straight for me.  I yelled once GET BACK, and it came behind me and grabbed onto my right leg, behind my knee. I tried kicking at it with my left leg, and looking back to the house, noticed a car in the driveway.  I was screaming HEY and OW.  No one came out.  The dog turned and ran back towards the home.  I walked swiftly farther from there, and stopped at the next house. I noticed their mail flag up and no car, so I stood and cried.  Very much in shock, I decided to look at my leg, it was really stinging.  It was puntured pretty bad, and purple.
I walked the last few kilometers home, in shock and mad.  Full intentions of driving back and giving someone a peice of my mind.  Etc etc.
I got back to my mom's and called my dr's office.  UGH, on vacation till Monday.  Then I called the police and reported it.  I was mad and decided I shouldn't feel afraid to run AND a dog shouldnt be territoral of THE ROADS!   I've had dogs bark before, and most MOST people have invisible fencing.  Just insane.
So then I had the pleasure of spending 2 hours in the ER waiting to get a tentanus shot. The police are supposed to follow up with me and let me know if the dog has had all his shots, and what the owners say etc etc.
Hopefully I don't need rabie shots!  ARGH!

Is it hot in here??

WHAT THE EFF?? Who turned up the heat?
I remember this from last year, which was the whole reason I had dropped from the Midsummer 30k to the 15k, lol, BUT I refuse to allow myself to do it this yr.
There has been some crazy humidity going on, and I actually took 2 days off from running and did some in gym basement workouts.  I know most would say 'Why not get up early and run?"  Well 2 of my 4 kids don't like sleeping, and sometimes it's 4:30a before I even get to sleep!
So today ended up being a run/walk combination, that I tell myself will serve as intervals for this wk!

So I have mentioned before that I run some very VERY rural routes. And I definitely see some cool things. Now that I bring my IPOD touch with me, I can get more pics to post.
one did not hatch
Last week, I saw some Snapper turtle eggs.
Slight brag of one of the hills that I run:
Hard to see, but inbetween the trees at the VERY top is the top!!

HOPE EVERYONE IS STAYING SAFE AND HYDRATING WELL!!

Miss Minimus

I've been looking for a new pair of shoes to start breaking in because my Adidas are getting miles on them, and they don't make that version anymore.

Last week, I went to Sport Chek and tried on the Saucony Kinvara 3 and the New Balance Minimus 3090.  Both felt great on my feet, priced the same but as I had never heard of the NB, I decided to think for a few days and do some research.

The NB use revlite in their shoe, with a bunch of 'pods' on the outer sole.  Weighing in at 5.1 oz, and I noticed Foot Locker carried them in HOT PINK!!!
I went to a Foot Locker location, and they didn't have them in store, but would UPS to my house for an 8$ fee.  SOLD!!  (ps, I did ask Sport Chek, and the salesman said they wouldn't try to get me the other color other than what they had in store *black/teal*, and the NB wasn't even offered on the Sport Chek site)
At my door within 3 days!
Took them for a 6k run the first day, and I felt so light on my feet.  They do have quite a bit of cushioning.  They felt really GOOD!  Second day, I went super hilly 12+ km run, on a dirt road.  Whoopdee what??  My feet were still loving this shoe!!    I am shoe delight!!!

Well rested

Last week was just a terrible week for mileage.  Life and weather just didnt cooperate, and I had a weekly total of 8 miles.   8.miles.that.is.all!

So, I used it as a cutback week, and put myself back into my weight room.  Which, I actually enjoyed and felt that familiar burn of lifting.
Saturday, I met up with Brookie, we picked up our race kits for the group doing the 1k/8k Alfie Shrubb, and we had a little retail therapy, hiding from the weather.
Bubble gum ice cream and not enough napkins

Sunday morning, up and at 'em early, and the weather was cool and gray but no rain. PERFECT running weather.  We arrived JUST in time for the kids to do the 1km run, Steele only had Gordie the Camel in mind.   (Side note: they had mentioned camel rides when we picked up kits, and then only allowed picture taking from behind Gordies fence corall)
Totally staring at the camel
Love their runs!

The 8km started an hour after the kids, so we had time to go get our chips from the school and get set up.  Starting the run, I wanted to stay about 5min km pace, I had read the course description and it said 'starting flat and coming to some hills, out and back"  I felt really good, and the hills turned out to be ONE hill (it was large) and I was unable to keep an eye on my pace anymore, because my garmin decided it was full at about a mile in. (my own fault--it's been warning me for a week that data was reaching limit)  I turned it off, because I could hear it beeping and imagined it was probally driving other runners insane.
A little blurry-running trio
I finished in just over 41minutes, and as per usual, I have those 2nd guessing thoughts, because I wasnt winded or tired, I really wished I had of pushed myself a little more.
It was a great course, and pretty well organized.  (They could have used a few garbage cans around the race area, NOT just across the road  in the schoole, especially since they were giving out juice boxes to the kids)

And to top off the day, a beautiful rainbow outside my front door!

A new view

Sunday's long run brought some new trials to the mix.  Because I have to have Piper at gymnastics early on Sunday, I don't get to run until well after lunch.
I started with the Chariot, and took Piper and Paxton down to my mom's (3.54km)  I had left my running shoes at my mom's for Fridays run, so the first 3.5km were done in a NIKE stability shoe from the Bowerman Series.
I changed shoes, filled my small Nathan bottles and stuck them in my crops pockets.  I wanted to get about 13km in by myself, figuring with the 3.5k and then I will be going home again, I will get 20k in.

I decided to bring my Ipod touch, rather than the nano which it was nice to have a camera option (pics coming) but not as convinent to change songs.  I went straight and took a route I hadnt run, figuring  different eye scenery would be nice.

It was nice, quite a few trees, so the back roads were shaded in areas.  BUT HOLY MOUNTAINS HILLS!  Don't get me wrong, I do love my hills, but these were pretty big. (ha!)
I have to admit, I did walk a couple. *blush*

The road shown, is where I came from. Very pretty, no cars.
Added in the heat, I wasnt really timing or pacing, just wanted to get the distance in.  But it was 20.11km , 2h 17m.
I will definitely run this area again.
